Early Life


Writing Career
Born on February 9, 1976, in Bandra East, Mumbai, Sanjay Bharatiya grew up in a financially struggling Dalit family. His father, Sukhdev Kharat, worked as a government mechanic, and his mother, Vedubai, was a homemaker. Life in the slums exposed Sanjay to harsh realities, including poverty and caste discrimination. Despite these challenges, he nurtured a deep love for literature and writing, which would shape his future.
Sanjay started his career as a Marathi copywriter, creating advertisements and greeting cards for agencies like Marks, Archies, and Hallmark. Over two decades, he wrote more than 10,000 greeting cards. His creative talent also led him to contribute poems and articles to prominent Marathi newspapers like Loksatta and Lokmat. In 1999, his poetry collection Bedhund was published, earning him recognition in the literary world
Music and Digital Platforms
In 2020, Sanjay released his first music album, Prem Jhale Tula, under the Times Music label. To further connect with audiences, he launched a YouTube channel, Shabdmanthan, where he recites his poetry. His blog, also named Shabdmanthan Marathi, features film reviews, poems, and articles about his life experiences.

Sanjay’s passion for storytelling found its way to cinema. His short film Cast No Bar (2019), focusing on caste equality, was well-received at various film festivals. In 2022, his film Chirbhog, directed by Nilesh Ambedkar, won the National Human Rights Commission's First National Award. Sanjay has also written other impactful short films like Baat, Badal, and Sauda, shedding light on human rights and social issues.
